Obverse: Diademed head of Lysanius to right, countermark behind
Reverse: Roma standing left, holding Victory and shield
Size: 20.34mm

Description: nearing VF. ex Colosseum Coin Exchange with tag. A historical bronze with the portrait of Lysanius who was beheaded by Marc Antony in 36BC. His small territory was then leased by Zenodorus and was later given by Caesar to Herod Philip. The monogram countermark is no doubt of Zenodorus. According to Chris Howgego this was common practice for rulers to counterstamp the coinage of the previous ruler.
